Bas Blokker is a Dutch journalist. He holds a Master of Arts degree in Medieval History from the University of Amsterdam. In the last year of his studies he started doing freelance work as a reporter. The moment he did an interview with the American historian Robert Darnton in Paris, Blokker knew journalism would be his profession. Starting at NRC Handelsblad in 1991, he has written about education, the city of Amsterdam, film and many more.
In July 2018 he moved to Washington DC, reporting on the final years of the Trump presidency. During this first period, he had a two weekly podcast with VPRO’s Chris Kijne. He returned to the Netherlands and to the NRC as a reporter in 2023.
