The John Adams Institute invited renowned British travel writer Redmon O’Hanlon to be its guest and speak about his book No Mercy: A Journey to the Heart of the Congo, which tells the story of O’Hanlon’s most daring jungle jaunt to date: an expedition into the swamp forest of the Congo in search of a living dinosaur. O’Hanlon’s travels take him to one of the remotest regions of Africa. He heads up the Congo river to find an aquatic monster mentioned in pygmy legends. Along the way, O’Hanlon paints a vivid and entertaining picture of the region’s wildlife, its wondrous vegetation and its people. The book is considered one of O’Hanlon’s best works to date. Insightful and funny, it takes us places we are unlikely to visit, combining compelling narrative with a cracking good story. He has written several travel books, including Into the Heart of Borneo and In Trouble Again. In November 2011 VPRO Television began broadcasting O’Hanlons Helden (O’Hanlon’s heroes). In this series O’Hanlon introduces the viewer to his heroes of the nineteenth century. The program was awarded with the prestigious Dutch television award, De Zilveren Nipkowschijf.
