The work of American photographer Bryan Schutmaat focusses on the interface between wilderness and civilization. The photos for his series ‘County Road’ were mainly taken in rural Texas and represent the transition from winter to spring. Most of them were made during the Covid-19 shutdown. By portraying dirt roads, forests, farmland, meadows, he captured nature’s indifference to humanity. County Road is on view at Galerie Wouter van Leeuwen in Amsterdam from 22 January-26 February 2022. John Adams director Tracy Metz wrote a review for NRC (in Dutch).
