The John Adams Institute proudly presented an evening with ‘brat pack’ novelist Jay McInerney. McInerney’s first novel – Bright Lights, Big City – was an instant classic and a Hollywood hit, capturing the cocaine-fueled excess of 1980’s Manhattan like few others. Then, as he told The New York Times recently, he became one of the decadent New York characters in his novel. Now, after three marriages and a long bout with writer’s block, McInerney came back to capture a whole new era in the life of the city. The Good Life is a love story set around the devastation of September 11, 2001. The evening was moderated by Pieter Steinz of NRC Handelsblad.
