The collection of the Design Museum in Den Bosch roughly comprises half a century: from the 1950s to the early 21st century. Characteristic of American ceramicists’ work is ‘do what you want!’ and a hankering after the extreme which corresponds seamlessly with the country of the American Dream, imagination, adventure and boundless opportunities. These ceramics run the gamut from extravagant to serene, from taboo breaking to traditional, from just beautiful to gently political or the referencing popular culture.
